The Mt Mitchell Challenge and Black Mountain Marathon is a unique trail run where all runners initially sign up for the Marathon. The first 250 runners who reach the Blue Ridge Parkway turnaround within the cutoff time have the option to continue to the Summit. The Summit racers will have the chance to run to the 6,684' summit of Mount Mitchell, eastern America's highest point. The event has a starting altitude of 2,360' and offers a challenging course with a significant elevation gain. The race founders aimed to create an event that caters to both elite athletes and weekend warriors, providing an opportunity to test oneself against the forces of nature.
