Mount Marathon Race, Seward

The Mount Marathon Race in Seward, Alaska is an annual Fourth of July footrace. The course ascends and descends Mount Marathon, the peak that overlooks Seward and Resurrection Bay. Men and women cover the whole mountain while junior runners cover about half the route.

The route features a steep climb and a technical descent. Participants come from around the United States, overseas, and from Alaska. Event programming and services listed by the organizers include bib pickup, a pasta feed, a mandatory safety meeting, safety tours, a Mini Mount Marathon, Race From The Base, awards ceremonies, livestream coverage, volunteers, and community activities.

Entry uses a lottery and priority registration process; lottery and priority registration for the 2027 race is scheduled for March 1 to March 31, 2027. Results, race rosters, historical records, and a race guide are maintained for each edition. The race is organized by the Seward Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Marathon Race Committee.
