Monster of Mazinaw Trail Race
Monster of Mazinaw Trail Race 2026
The event takes place at Bon Echo Provincial Park in Cloyne, Ontario. It includes multiple trail distances and a 43 km ultramarathon described as Canada’s shortest ultramarathon.
Distances offered:
- 43 km ultramarathon
- 30 km
- 10 km
The course varies from wide groomed trails to technical, rocky single track. A large backcountry section is notably demanding even for experienced trail runners: rocks, roots, and steep ascents and descents, and it can be very slippery when wet. Runners should expect stretches of 12 to 14 km without aid and possible gaps up to 17 km between aid stations. Participants must be self reliant and are advised to carry a hydration pack.
Aid stations provide water, an electrolyte drink, PB & J, and sweet and salty snacks. The event is cupless so runners need a collapsible cup or bottle. THN Labs supplies gels in race kits and at aid stations; the gels contain maple syrup, tahini, sea salt, and rowanberry extract. La Sportiva will attend with a demo shoe fleet and will give away two pairs of shoes.
Registration is limited to 250 participants. The entry fee includes a race tee, bib, a custom finisher medal for finishers, and food and drinks at aid stations. Park admission is not included. GPX files from 2025 are available; the 2026 route will be slightly different but similar.
Mazinaw Rock rises about 100 metres from the lake, features roughly 260 pictographs, and is designated a National Historic Site. The park supports a variety of wildlife including black bear, moose, and various raptors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
