Monsal Trail March Half Marathon & 10k Weekend

The Monsal Trail March Half Marathon & 10k Weekend is a multi-terrain running event held over two days at the end of March. Participants can choose to compete on either Saturday or Sunday, or take part on both days. The races take place in the Peak District, starting and finishing at the site of the old Bakewell Station in Derbyshire.

The course follows a former Midland Railway line, offering a route that is largely traffic-free and undulating. Runners will pass through four railway tunnels and cross the Monsal viaduct, with the path providing views over the Derbyshire Dales. Because of its timing and terrain, the event is often used for spring marathon training.

The event offers two main distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 10 km

The 10 km race is open to entrants aged 15 and over, while the Half Marathon requires participants to be at least 17 years old. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and access to free digital race photographs. Trophies and prizes are also awarded to the leading runners.

Race headquarters are located at Bakewell Station. While there is no general parking at the station itself, pay and display car parks are located approximately 500 metres away in Bakewell town centre. Additional parking and facilities are available at Hassop Station, situated about one mile along the trail. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
