The Mendips Epic Trail takes place in the Mendip Hills near Winscombe. The event offers participants the choice between traditional trail running and rucking, which involves covering the course while wearing a weighted backpack. The Pro categories are competitive formats with age groups for those 35 or below, 36-42, and 43+. In the Ruck categories, the organizer provides GORUCK Rucker 4.0 backpacks to ensure uniformity. Pro Ruck participants carry 11.3 kg for men and 6.8 kg for women, while Open Ruck participants carry 6.8 kg for men and 4.5 kg for women. Open categories are non-competitive formats for those who prefer to complete the course at their own pace.

The event facilities include a bag drop area, toilets, and water stations located along the course. Food and drink vendors, as well as fitness apparel and merchandise stalls, are available on-site.
