Marilyn's Meldon Madness

Marilyn's Meldon Madness is a fell running event held at Meldon Reservoir Car Park near Okehampton (grid ref SX561917) in the South West of England. The senior course covers 8 km (about 5 miles) with approximately 415 m of ascent. There are junior races on shorter courses.

The event is run under a permit from the Fell Runners Association with associated UK Athletics insurance. Entry is by pre entry only; senior entry is listed at £8 and entry is limited to 50 runners. Teams are not permitted. The minimum age for the senior race is 16.

Junior races are offered with a minimum age of 8. Junior distances are 2 km and 4 km and there is a separate, lower entry fee noted for juniors. Prizes are awarded for first place in several junior age categories.

The route reaches high ground with open navigation between checkpoints. There are compulsory checkpoints where all runners must present their race number to stewards. Because parts of the course are difficult to mark, self navigation is required. There is no mandatory kit list in all conditions, but a whistle, raincoat and hat are advised when the weather is poor and carrying a map and compass may be useful if unfamiliar with the terrain.
