Marilyn's Meldon Madness

Formerly The Great West Fell Run, the event has been renamed in memory of an individual. Race headquarters is at Meldon dam pay and display car park, near Okehampton (grid ref: SX 561 917). The start and finish are a short walk to the other side of the dam.

The senior race is about five miles with approximately 1,362 ft of ascent and reaches the highest point in the south of England. The route passes Yes Tor and High Willhays before descending via Black Tor and Homerton Hill to finish at Meldon reservoir. There are compulsory checkpoints at which all runners must hand their number to stewards. The course is not marked in full so self navigation is required. The race is licensed by the Fell Runners Association. There is no mandatory kit list but a whistle, raincoat and hat are advised in poor weather; a map and compass are recommended if a runner is not familiar with the course.

The junior race is a straight up and down route on Longstone Hill. Minimum age is 8 years. Distances by age group: Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

  • Under 9 and Under 11: 2 km
  • Under 13 and Under 15: 4 km Older juniors aged 16 and over may enter the senior race. Prizes are awarded for first place in U11, U13 and U15 boys and girls. Senior entry fee is £8. Course records stand at 00:37:13 for male and 00:42:04 for female.
