PAGAN TRAILS
PAGAN TRAILS takes place on Saturday 23rd January 2027 in Chagford in the north-eastern corner of Dartmoor, where the moorland meets the valleys of the Upper Teign and Bovey Rivers. The two routes pass many stone circles and pagan sites in this part of north Dartmoor.
Distances:
- Marathon - over 28 miles
- Half Marathon - well over 14 miles
The Marathon includes more than 1500 m of ascent and the Half Marathon has almost 700 m of ascent. Both routes are set in midwinter and are described as significant physical tests. GPS trackers are used for the Marathon distance and trackers are provided for that race.
Both races start and finish at the Chagford Cricket and Football Club Event HQ. Time limits are 8 hours for the Marathon and 4 hours for the Half Marathon; cut-offs are strictly enforced. Minimum ages are 20 years for the Marathon and 17 years for the Half Marathon.
There are four full outdoor aid stations on the Marathon route and two outdoor aid stations on the Half Marathon route.
Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket, trail shoes, a backpack, capacity to carry 1 litre fluid for the Marathon and 1/2 litre for the Half, a spare warm long-sleeve baselayer, warm hat and gloves, waterproof leggings for the Marathon, emergency food and foil blanket, a headtorch for the Marathon, and a mobile phone with Race Director and Lead Medic numbers.
The event is permitted by the Trail Running Association and held under England Athletics rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
