Pagan Trails
Pagan Trails is a midwinter trail running event based in Chagford on north-east Dartmoor. The two routes pass many stone circles and pagan sites in the Upper Teign and Bovey valleys and are set in wintry moorland terrain.
Available distances:
- Marathon: over 28 miles
- Half Marathon: well over 14 miles
The Marathon includes about 1500 m of ascent and the Half Marathon about 700 m of ascent. Both routes are described as demanding in winter conditions and include outdoor aid stations: four full aid stations for the Marathon and two for the Half Marathon. Trackers are used for the Marathon and are provided.
The event base and the start/finish location for both races is Chagford Cricket and Football Club, which serves as Event HQ. Time limits are 8 hours for the Marathon and 4 hours for the Half Marathon; cut-offs will be strictly enforced. Minimum ages are 20 years for the Marathon and 17 years for the Half Marathon.
A mandatory kit list includes items such as a waterproof jacket, trail shoes, backpack, capacity to carry required fluid, spare warm baselayer, warm hat and gloves, emergency food and foil blanket, waterproof leggings for the Marathon, and a headtorch for the Marathon. GPX files and route maps are provided. The race is permitted by the Trail Running Association and held under England Athletics rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
