Magnus Gluteus Maximus

Magnus Gluteus Maximus is an annual holiday 50 km trail run that uses an out-and-back format on the Bull Run-Occoquan Trail. The event begins at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park and follows the BROT downstream to Fountainhead Regional Park and the Do Loop. The BROT is blazed blue and the course will not be marked with ground chalk or ribbons. The route avoids the White Loop, the Fountainhead mountain bike trail, and does not go upstream from Hemlock. Runners are warned never to cross a stream on concrete cylinders.

The course lists roughly 4,000 feet of total ascent and descent and includes four aid stations located near Bull Run Marina and Fountainhead, positioned so participants pass each aid station on both outbound and return legs. Aid stations will provide water, electrolyte drink, soda, and typical trail aid station items; there will be no disposable cups, so runners must carry a water bottle or reusable cup. A GPX file is available for download for navigation; extra course markings will be provided at two points to aid route finding.

Parking will use the Hemlock park campus and a nearby lower field; volunteers will direct parking to keep fire lanes open. Participants are asked to wear seasonal colors. Entry opens on November 9, 2026, with a $20 fee that covers lodge access, bathrooms, stocked aid stations, and an after-event meal and beverages. Medical care is not provided by the club; participants are responsible for their own safety and preparedness on remote trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
