The Madder Than a Wet Hen race is a 5K trail event at Willenborg Woods near Charleston, IL. The course uses a summertime variant of the back half of the Frozen Cock's Crow course and packs roughly 1,100 feet of elevation gain into the short route.

The route begins on winding forest trails and includes a notable one third mile stretch through the Embarras River. In July the river runs ankle to knee deep, with exposed sandy bars and rocky riffles. Near the finish, runners face Billy Goat Hill, a steep climb just before the finish area.

The field is limited to 125 participants, keeping the event small and community oriented. A post-race party follows the run and includes pancakes and ice cream. Primitive tent camping is available for an additional $10 add on, with porta potties and an outdoor shower on site. Lodging is also available nearby in Charleston, IL, and the start is accessible by car. The event notes hot weather in July, so hydration and sun protection are practical considerations.
