The Lenape Trail Run is a point-to-point event that covers 34 miles along the Lenape Trail, beginning near South Mountain Reservation and finishing back at the cars. Participants travel to an eastern trailhead by train and then run west along the trail. The event is self-supported: runners should carry the gear and nutrition they need for the full distance. There will be some aid dropped along the route and runners will pass stores.
Course and trail information
The Lenape Trail was established in 1982 and is about 34 miles long. For most of its length it is marked by yellow blazes on trees and telephone poles. Surfaces vary, including sidewalks, surfaced trails, dirt trails, and aqueducts. The route passes through Newark’s Ironbound district, Branch Brook Park, Belleville, Nutley, Bloomfield, Brookdale Park, Mills Reservation, Verona and Verona Park, Eagle Rock Reservation with views toward the New York skyline, then follows rail-trail sections and power line corridors before connecting to the southern section in South Mountain Reservation. Parts of the trail cross a pedestrian bridge over the Garden State Parkway and go under I-280. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
