About the race
Febapple Frozen Fifty is a winter trail running event at South Mountain Reservation in Maplewood, New Jersey, held on February 20, 2027. The event uses an approximately 10 mile loop that mixes double-wide woods roads, single-track trail, soft dirt, rocks, pavement, rolling hills and steep climbs and descents. February weather can affect the course; snow, ice, mud or frozen ground are possible.

The loop layout provides about three aid opportunities per loop, roughly every 3 miles, with the course routed past Summit Field twice and the Turtle Back parking area. The start and finish are at the Summit Field picnic area. Parking is available near the dog park off Crest Drive and in lots along Crest Drive and Bear Lane; once those fill, parallel parking is possible where permitted. Do not park on the grass. Depending on where a vehicle is parked, expect up to approximately a half mile walk to registration and the start area.
Course marking may use orange landscape paint, flagging or flour with a three arrow system: one before, one at and one after each turn. A headlamp is recommended since some participants may be on course before sunrise or after sunset. Registration includes race swag, course support and timing; there are no finisher medals. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each race, with discounts on future NJ Trail Series races valid for one year.
