Frosty Squatchy
Frosty Squatchy is the 10th annual winter Trail Party held on January 30, 2027 in West Orange, New Jersey. The event is a fixed-timed format run on a 5K loop and raises funds for the South Mountain Conservancy. Capacity is capped at 200 participants across all events.
Distances and formats:
- 5K on the loop
- 3 hours timed event
- 6 hours timed event
- 3H ruck with Lightweight (15 lb) and Heavyweight (30 lb) divisions
The 5K loop mixes wide carriage roads and technical singletrack. Each loop has about 300 ft of elevation gain. The course includes a wide dirt first mile, a steep rocky descent of roughly 200+ ft near mile one, a 100 ft climb around mile 2.5, and a final singletrack section with rocks and roots. Terrain is approximately 84% carriage roads and 16% technical singletrack. The route will be marked with neon ribbons and red directional arrows.
This Trail Party follows a Fat-Sass format: there is no formal aid station for food and participants must bring their own fuel and hydration. Organizers provide coolers of water at the headquarters area, a first aid kit and AED, portable toilets including an ADA unit, and private changing tents. Trekking poles are allowed. Pacer and guide policies permit pacers for participants over 60 and athletes with disabilities; pacers should be registered in advance. Crews may access Squatch HQ only, and parking at the Turtleback Rock Picnic Area fits about 110 cars with directed overflow. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
