Frosty Squatchy

The Frosty Squatchy is a trail party held on January 30, 2027 in West Orange, New Jesey. The event uses a fixed-time format on a 5K loop and raises funds for the South Mountain Conservancy; since 2018 the event has raised over $20,000 for the Conservancy.

Participants may choose among these options:

• 5K loop (3.1 miles)
• 3-hour event
• 6-hour event
• 3H ruck with weight divisions

The 5K loop mixes wide carriage roads and technical singletrack. Each loop has about 300 ft of elevation gain; the course is roughly 84% carriage roads and 16% singletrack. Notable features include a wide dirt first mile, a rocky 200+ ft descent near mile 1, a 100 ft climb near mile 2.5, and a final mile of singletrack with rocks and roots. The course will be marked with neon pink/reflective ribbon and red directional arrows. Trekking poles are allowed. Organizers provide a trail conditions report before the event and may recommend winter traction.

This is a low-support "Fat-Sass" event: runners and hikers must bring their own fuel and hydration. Coolers of water and refill access are available at Squatch HQ; there is no staffed aid station on course. Registration includes a bib and safety pins; awards are given to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers.

The event is capped at 200 participants across all events. Start/finish is at Turtleback Rock Picnic Area off Walker Road with about 110 parking spaces in the lot and overflow to nearby side streets. Portable toilets including an ADA unit, private changing tents, a first aid kit, and an AED are available at Squatch HQ. Dogs are not permitted. Pacers or guides are allowed for participants aged 60 and for athletes with disabilities; these must be registered in advance. Crew access is limited to Squatch HQ and crew may not assist on other parts of the course. Refunds or deferrals are not offered for this fundraising event.
