Rise Up Hero Trail Runs at Settlers Cabin Park

Rise Up Hero is a loop-based trail event held at Settlers Cabin Park that uses the same route as Last Trail Standing but started in the opposite direction. The course covers nearly every trail in the park and is almost entirely singletrack through woods, with rocks, roots, and rolling terrain. Starting the route in reverse changes where climbs, descents, and technical sections occur along the loops.

All distances start and finish at Algonquin Shelter. Gilbert Love Shelter is about 7.75 trail miles from Algonquin and serves as the main halfway aid station and turnaround for the 25K and 50K distances. Aid stations are fully stocked and the trails are very well marked.

Distances offered:

  • 50K - two 15.5-mile loops; ~4600 ft elevation gain
  • 25K - one loop Algonquin to Gilbert Love and back; ~2300 ft gain
  • 8 Miler - runs past Gilbert Love then returns to Algonquin
  • 5K - true 5K loop starting and finishing at Algonquin

Additional details include two major aid locations with a maximum distance under eight miles between them, 50K drop bags at Algonquin, professional timing by Miles of Smiles, finisher medals and overall placement awards, and age-group awards for the 8 Miler, 25K, and 50K. Hikers are welcome in the 25K, 8 Miler, and 5K, and trained dogs are permitted in the 5K when under control and trail-friendly. The event also provides a "Be The Hero" bracelet while supplies last and passes a memorial area called Rilyn's Way along the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
