Rise Up Hero Trail Runs at Settlers Cabin Park

Rise Up Hero is a loop based trail event held at Settlers Cabin Park that uses the same route as Last Trail Standing but started in the opposite direction. The course covers nearly every trail in the park and is almost entirely trail surface through woods, rocks, roots, and rolling terrain.

All distances start and finish at Algonquin Shelter. Gilbert Love Shelter lies 7.75 trail miles from Algonquin and serves as a major aid station and turnaround for the 25K and 50K. There are two major aid locations on the course and the maximum distance between aid stations is under 8 miles. Drop bags for the 50K are located at Algonquin.

Course format and elevation notes:

  • 50K: 31 miles, two 15.5 mile loops, about 4600 ft elevation gain.
  • 25K: 15.5 miles, one loop with turnaround at Gilbert Love, about 2300 ft elevation gain.
  • 8 Miler: 8 miles, runs past Gilbert Love then returns to Algonquin.
  • 5K: 3.1 miles, true 5K loop; does not reach Gilbert Love.

Hikers are welcome in the 25K, 8 Miler, and 5K. Trained dogs are allowed in the 5K and must be under control and trail friendly. The course is well marked and aid stations are fully stocked. Official timing is provided by Miles of Smiles. Every participant receives a Be The Hero bracelet and finisher medals are awarded to all participants. Age group awards are given for the 8 Miler, 25K, and 50K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
