Last Trail Standing
Last Trail Standing is a trail running event held at Settlers Cabin Park in Pittsburgh. The race takes place on a course that covers every trail within the park, consisting of a 7.75-mile point-to-point trail. This route is run in both directions to form a 15.5-mile loop. Participants in longer distances experience the course in reverse for each loop, creating a unique perspective of the terrain. The terrain is approximately 99% wooded trails.
The event offers several distances to accommodate different preferences:
- 5K: A trail version of the classic distance.
- 8 Miler: An out-and-back route that finishes at the primary shelter.
- 25K: A single full loop of the out-and-back course.
- 50K: Two full loops of the course, totaling approximately 3,300 feet of ascent and 3,100 feet of descent.
The race starts and finishes at the Gilbert Love Shelter, with a turnaround point at the Algonquin Shelter. These two locations are positioned within 100 yards of each other, allowing for convenient spectator access and crew support. For the 50K distance, runners have access to drop bags at the 15.5-mile checkpoint. Two major aid stations are provided along the route.
The event features a dedicated final half-mile known as Rilyn's Way and includes a memorial symbol called The Empty Chair along the course. All participants receive a finisher medal, and top three awards are presented for various categories and age groups. Hikers are permitted to participate in the 5K, 8 Miler, and 25K distances.
