Event details
Last One Standing at Smith Ranch in Bradley, California, uses a loop format where participants run a 4.18 mile loop repeatedly until one runner completes a final lap alone. The course is 100% dirt on trail and ranch roads, marked with green surveyors tape, with gross elevation change of +332' and -332'.
Each loop must be completed within the hour in which it starts; runners who do not finish within the hour are recorded as DNF and do not continue. Runners who finish a loop within the hour may start the next loop only if they are in the starting corral when the next hour begins. Once in the starting corral, no outside aid is allowed. Competitors must start each loop at the sounding of the bell and failure to line up in the starting corral will result in disqualification.
Participants may have a small crew of up to two people and may set up at the race starting area as a pit stop. No non-competitors are allowed on the course, and except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course until each loop is completed. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not permitted. Runners are responsible for carrying on-course supplies such as water and snacks; no aid stations will be on the loop. A staffed aid station will be available for the duration of the event.
The last runner standing receives a custom western-style trophy buckle. All entrants receive a handcrafted Kukini amulet, an event sticker, and a custom event t-shirt with their entry fee. Camp fees are $10 per vehicle per night payable to Smith Ranch at check in. Amenities include portable restrooms, a group campfire at dusk, a community oak BBQ pit, large flat camp areas, and music.
