Laramie Peak Endurance Challenge
The Laramie Peak Endurance Challenge takes place in the Medicine Bow National Forest near Douglas, Wyoming. The event is centered at the Friend Park Campground and focuses on navigating the technical and remote terrain of Laramie Peak. The course features rugged trails, narrow ridgelines, granite outcrops, and rocky paths, reaching an elevation of nearly 10,000 feet. Each lap consists of approximately 9 miles with nearly 3,000 feet of vertical gain and loss.
The event offers three distinct distance options:
- 24-Hour Mountain Endurance Challenge: Participants complete as many full summit laps as possible within a 24-hour period.
- 12-Hour Challenge: A time-limited event with a rolling start window where participants choose their own strategy.
- Single Summit Challenge: A single ascent and descent of the mountain suitable for hikers or mountain runners.
A central basecamp aid station is located at the Friend Park Campground, serving as the only support point on the course. This station provides water, electrolytes, hot food, and snacks. Medical support is provided on-site by the Douglas Volunteer Fire Department. Due to the high altitude and backcountry nature of the route, participants are encouraged to carry specific gear including a hydration pack, windproof or waterproof layers, and a reliable headlamp.
The event partners with the Warrior Trail Foundation, an organization that utilizes trail running and fast-packing as recreational therapy for veterans and their families. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
