Laps For Love Backyard Ultra

The Laps For Love Backyard Ultra is a community-centered endurance event held at Sedgwick County Park in Wichita, Kansas. The competition follows the traditional backyard ultra format on a paved loop measuring 4.167 miles. This course features minimal elevation change and begins and ends near the Plum Shelter area.

Participants must complete the loop within one hour to remain in the race. A new loop starts every hour on the hour, and any time remaining after finishing a lap can be used for resting and refueling. Runners are eliminated if they fail to start the next loop on time. The event has no predetermined finishing time or distance; it continues until only one runner remains to complete a full loop alone.

The event supports a local cause, with a portion of every registration fee donated to Family Promise of Greater Wichita to assist families with children experiencing homelessness. Available distances include:

  • 4.167 mile loops repeated hourly until one runner remains

A main aid station at the start/finish area provides water, electrolytes, and supplemental nutrition, alongside simple hot food options as the event progresses. However, runners are expected to bring their own primary nutrition and supplies. Support crews are permitted at the designated start/finish area to assist participants with tents, chairs, and coolers, though pacers are strictly prohibited. All participants who complete at least one loop receive a finisher item. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
