Land Between the Lakes - The Great American Trail Race

The Land Between the Lakes Trail Runs take place in Grand Rivers, Kentucky. The event offers four distinct distances for participants:

  • 50 mile
  • 60 km
  • Marathon
  • 23 km

All distances start along the shoreline of Kentucky Lake at Lighthouse Landing. The course follows the road for approximately 1.7 to 2 miles before reaching the trailhead of the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. The primary running surface is the Canal Loop, which is an 11.3-mile circuit consisting of mostly single-track, packed dirt. The terrain features rolling hills on the Lake Barkley side and larger hills on the Kentucky Lake side, providing views of both bodies of water.

Participants in the 23 km complete one loop, while Marathon runners complete two. The 60 km involves three loops, and the 50 mile requires four loops plus a 0.62-mile out-and-back section. There is a 12-hour time limit for all events. For the longer distances, specific cut-off times apply for starting the final loop.

The event includes a pre-race pasta dinner on Friday and post-race food provided by the local community on Saturday. Finisher awards vary by distance and include buckles for the 50 mile and 60 km events, and medals for the Marathon and 23 km. According to insurance policy, dogs are not permitted to accompany participants on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
