Land Between the Lakes - The Great American Trail Race

The Land Between the Lakes Trail Runs take place in Grand Rivers, Kentucky. The event features four distinct distances that utilize the natural landscape of the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. All participants begin their journey along the shoreline of Kentucky Lake before transitioning onto approximately two miles of road to reach the trailhead of the Canal Loop.

The primary course follows an 11.3 mile loop consisting mostly of single-track packed dirt. The terrain features rolling hills on the Lake Barkley side and larger hills on the Kentucky Lake side, providing views of the Tennessee River and the Cumberland River. The event accommodates various completion speeds with a generous 12-hour time limit across all categories.

Available distances include:

  • 23 km: One full loop plus the road sections.
  • Marathon (26.2 miles): Two full loops plus the road sections.
  • 60 km: Three full loops plus the road sections.
  • 50 miles: Four full loops, a 1.25-mile out-and-back section, and road mileage.

The finish line is located at the Grand Rivers Tourism Office. Runners in the longer distances who are not on pace to finish the full course within 12 hours may be directed to the finish after completing fewer loops to receive an official time for a shorter distance. Please note that dogs are not permitted to participate in the run due to insurance policies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
