Land Between the Lakes - The Great American Trail Race
The event takes place on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, at Lighthouse Landing along the shoreline of Kentucky Lake. Four distances are offered:
- 50 mile
- 60 km
- Marathon
- 23 km
All distances begin together near the lake shoreline and proceed about 2 miles to the Land Between the Lakes trailhead. The course uses the Canal Loop, which is approximately 11.3 miles and is mostly single-track packed dirt.
Course and logistics
The Canal Loop features rolling hills on the Lake Barkley side and larger hills on the Kentucky Lake side. The course provides views of both lakes and is described as runnable. Race formats use loop counts: the 23 km runs one loop, the marathon two loops, the 60 km three loops, and the 50 mile four loops plus a 0.62 mile out-and-back after the fourth loop. A staff member will assist at the end of the loop for that out-and-back.
There is a 12 hour limit on all races; participants who miss cutoffs will be directed back to Grand Rivers for the finish and will receive the time and award for the distance completed. Packet pickup is at the Grand Rivers Community Center. Dogs are not allowed to run or walk with participants. Post-race food is provided by the Grand Rivers community.
