Land Between the Lakes Trail Runs
The Great American Trail Race takes place on March 13, 2027 in Grand Rivers, Kentucky. The event begins along the shoreline of Kentucky Lake and proceeds about 2 miles on roads into Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area to the trailhead of the 11.3 mile Canal Loop.
The Canal Loop is mostly single-track on nicely packed dirt. The course has rolling hills on the Lake Barkley side and larger hills on the Kentucky Lake side. The loop offers views of both Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake and is described as runnable.
Distances offered:
- 50 mile: 4 loops of the 11.3 mile Canal Loop plus 1.25 mile out and back.
- 60 km: 3 loops of the 11.3 mile Canal Loop.
- Marathon: 2 loops of the 11.3 mile Canal Loop.
- 23 km: 1 loop of the 11.3 mile Canal Loop.
Runners finish at the Grand Rivers Tourism Office. Participants are given 12 hours to finish; if not on pace, instructions are provided so a shorter official time and award can be recorded.
