Labor Day Trail Challenge
The Labor Day Trail Challenge takes place in McKinney Roughs Nature Park, a 1,140-acre preserve located along the Colorado River in Cedar Creek, Texas. The event features multiple distance options on a course that traverses four distinct ecosystems: Post Oak Savannah, Blackland Prairie, East Texas Piney Woods, and a riparian corridor. Runners move through rolling box canyons, wildflower meadows, and loblolly pine forests.
Participants can choose from four different distances:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 10K (6.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
The terrain consists of dirt single-track trails and fire roads, including sections with rolling elevation and technical footwork. The course offers scenic overlooks of the Colorado River from bluff-top trails and passes through the Lost Pines Forest. Due to the nature of the trails, the course is not stroller friendly.
The event is chip timed, and participants receive moisture-wicking, gender-specific t-shirts. Aid stations providing water, electrolytes, and snacks are positioned along the route. All participants who complete their distance receive a custom finisher medal featuring a Lost Pines design. The park is located 13 miles east of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Highway 71, with free parking available on-site for all attendees.
