Event Details
The Kodiak Mountain Series is a three-day stage race held in Kodiak, Alaska. The event consists of three separate races, with overall results determined by adding a participant's times from all three days. There are categories for Men, Women, and Teams, with no age divisions. A King of the Mountain (KOM) award is given for the fastest ascent in each individual race.
The Stages
The event features three distinct trail running courses:
- Stage 1 - Heitman Mountain: A 5.91-mile one-way course with 2,238 feet of elevation gain. The route goes to the summit and passes Heitman Lake on the descent.
- Stage 2 - Sharatin Mountain: A 7.76-mile course with 2,777 feet of elevation gain. It begins on single track, traverses alpine shale and rock, and passes Shelly Lake.
- Stage 3 - Pyramid Mountain Loop: A 5-mile loop course with 2,138 feet of elevation gain. The route summits Pyramid Mountain and features ridge running and flagged trail sections.
Additional Information
The courses use steep single-track trails and offer views of surrounding peaks and the ocean. The event organizer offers a bib auction program where 100% of proceeds from certain race bibs go to local non-profits.
