The Klondike Ultra is a weekend trail running event on June 6, 2026, held at Fort Assiniboine Sandhills Wildland Provincial Park and on private property within the park near Edmonton, Alberta. The event offers multiple race distances over natural terrain and includes bib, timing chip, and swag bag pickup at the start/finish area. Finisher trophies will be handed out to all finishers; 1st, 2nd and 3rd place podium finishers receive medals and prizes and must be present to collect them.
Course and distances
Courses begin in a valley bottom on a wide open field for a few hundred metres, then climb onto old wagon trails and single track. Trail surfaces include loose and packed sand, double track and single track across ancient sand dunes, moss-covered dunes, and boreal forest. Runners pass old growth cottonwoods and birch, see Clear Water Creek and where the trail meets the Athabasca, and may encounter beaver crossings. Sections of packed single track are fast and curvy; steep sand sections can slow uphill travel. The route uses portions of the original Klondike trail and passes historical features such as a grave site and a trapper’s cabin. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
