The Klondike Ultra is a trail running event held within the Fort Assiniboine Sandhills Wildland Provincial Park near Edmonton, Alberta. The race courses navigate a variety of terrains, including ancient sand dunes, boreal forests, and private property located in the center of the park. Participants run on historic paths such as the original Klondike Trail and old wagon roads. The terrain features sandy climbs, moss-covered single track trails, and sections alongside the Athabasca River and Clearwater Creek.
The ground consists of both loose and packed sand with very few rocks, though tree roots are present along the forested sections. The event offers several distances to accommodate different preferences: * **100 km** (Solo) * **50 km** (Little Klondike) * **27 km** (The Dead Horse) * **10 km** (Klondike Rush) * **6 km** (Klondike Dash) The start and finish line is located at Wierenga Flats. Runners on the longer courses pass historical landmarks, including a trapper's cabin and a grave site. Finisher trophies are provided to all participants who complete their race, and podium prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each category.
On-site catering is available with meal tickets provided to participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
