The Kailua Beach 4.4-Mile Shark Chase takes place on July 12, 2026 at Kailua Beach Park in Kailua, HI 96734. The organized event entry fee for the 4.4-mile beach run is $35. Registration opens on March 26, 2026. The start line is on the beach near the boat ramp, and race check-in and bib pick-up occur on race day at the park.
Course, awards and post-race information
The course is an out-and-back route that follows the shoreline to a turnaround point near the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base. The entire course is on the beach; shoes are optional and participants may run through shallow water depending on the tide. A costumed "shark" will lead the event and receives a head start. Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers and to the top three finishers in 5-year age groups. After the race there is a potluck and talk story in the park. Participants may bring a dish to share, and food may be dropped off at the check-in tent or retrieved from a vehicle for setup during the awards. An ice cooler will be available for items needing cold storage. Plates, cups, flatware and beverages will be provided; limited beach mats are available and attendees may bring chairs or blankets.
