Event Overview

The Kailua Beach 4.4-Mile Shark Chase is a beach run scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Course Details

The event features a single 4.4-mile out-and-back course. The entire route is run on the beach at Kailua Beach Park. The course starts near the boat ramp and follows the shoreline to a turnaround point near the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base before returning to the start area. Shoes are optional, and participants may run through shallow water. A unique element is the presence of a “shark” runner who gets a head start for others to chase.

Awards

Awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers. The top three finishers in five-year age groups also receive awards.

Post-Race Gathering

After the race, there is a potluck and social gathering. Participants are invited to remain in the park to eat and talk. Attendees can bring a dish to share, though it is not required. Plates, cups, flatware, and beverages are provided. People can bring chairs or beach blankets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
