Juneau Ridge Race - June 28, 2026
The Juneau Ridge Race is an approximately 15 miles mountain running event in Juneau, Alaska, with about 5000 feet of total elevation gain. The course starts and finishes in Cope Park in downtown Juneau and includes an ascent to the summit of Mt. Juneau at mile 4.9, reaching roughly 3500 feet of elevation above the start. After the summit the route follows the Juneau Ridge for about three miles before descending into Granite Basin and returning to Cope Park via Perserverance Trail and The Flume. Finish times reported range from about 2 hours 15 minutes to 6 hours.
There are three checkpoints along the course; these are not full aid stations and will carry only limited food and water when local groundwater is available. Racers are expected to carry what they will need, including a basic required kit such as a wind or water resistant jacket, a long sleeve shirt, an emergency space blanket or bivy, a beanie or ear-covering buff, gloves, water, and food. A 2 hour 30 minute summit time limit is enforced and racers not ready to leave the summit within that limit will be removed from the race. Cell coverage exists on the ascent and much of the ridge but is absent for most of the second half of the course. The event is USATF sanctioned, is part of the Alaska Mountain Running Grand Prix series, and limits participation to ages 18 and over with petitions considered for ages 16 and 17. The 2026 race is filled to capacity with a waitlist and a limited race store offering advance merchandise. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
