Jackalope Trail Run - New Mexico

The third edition of the Jackalope race takes place in Doña Ana County, New Mexico on October 17 and 18, 2026. The route begins in south Doña Ana County from Mesquite and heads north toward Las Cruces, passes Tortugas Mountain, and returns via the Sierra Vista Trail. The organizer notes that the same course is used for trail, mountain bike, and gravel categories.

The trail run is scheduled for Saturday, October 17. Two trail distances are offered:

  • 20K (12 miles)
  • 47K (29 miles)

MTB and gravel events are scheduled on Sunday with multiple distance options on the same course:

  • 12 mile beginner loop
  • 29 mile medium course
  • 42 mile full course

Prizes include podium awards for the top three men and women in each distance, category (trail/MTB/gravel), and age group. Age groups are under 18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus. A last runner standing backyard ultra at Prehistoric Trackways National Monument on October 30, 2026. Competitors run repeated 4.167 mile laps on crushed gravel trails with camping and an aid station, field capped at 75.
