Backyard Ultra - Las Cruces

Las Cruces, United States • 31 Oct 2025

Event overview

The Day of the Dead Land of Enchantment Backyard Ultra is scheduled for October 31, 2025, at Prehistoric Trackways National Monument in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The event is organized by Wanderlust Running Unlimited and is presented by Visit Las Cruces. It is an inaugural Day of the Dead edition and is limited to 100 participants. A portion of each registration will be donated to the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance. Refunds are not allowed.

Format and logistics

The race uses the backyard ultra "last runner standing" format. Runners repeat a 4.167-mile lollipop-style loop on a network of primarily crushed-gravel trails with some elevation change and views of the Organ Mountain range. Standard backyard rules apply: competitors must be in the starting box at the top of each hour, laps must be completed within the one-hour window, personal assistance is allowed only between laps, and aids like trekking poles are not permitted on course. The aid area at the start/finish will provide porta-pots, water and Gatorade, trail snacks, pickles, wraps, and coffee. This is a cupless event. All participants receive a hoodie and a Day of the Dead DNF medal; runners who complete 24 yards receive a 100-mile buckle. Male and female overall awards and a fastest-lap award will be given. Packet pickup is available at Bluebird Running Company and at the Trackways site, and the venue allows personal aid setup, campsites, and parking.
