The Icing on the Cake (How Hard Can It Be Events)

The Icing on the Cake is a trail running event in the Shropshire Hills based at Carding Mill Valley, Church Stretton, Shropshire, SY6 6JG. The route runs on The Long Mynd and through a National Trust area. Runners can choose between the following distances:

  • 13.1 miles - half marathon, one loop
  • 26.2 miles - full marathon, two laps

Course, support and requirements

The course will be fully marked and runners are asked to carry a map of the area. Competitors are expected to carry a rucksack with a minimum of 500 ml of water and a basic first aid kit. The event offers well stocked aid stations on course, a medal for participants, and marshals positioned along the route. Race headquarters is at Carding Mill Valley, near the National Trust tea rooms. Parking is available in the valley (approx £5 per car). The town of Church Stretton is close by and has a train station within about one mile of the event location. The event also includes a cake competition for attendees.
