The Icing on the Cake - Carding Mill Valley

The event takes place on 31 January 2026 in Carding Mill Valley, Church Stretton, Shropshire (SY6 6JG). It is a trail race on the Shropshire Hills and The Long Mynd that uses National Trust land. The route for the half is a single loop through rugged countryside; the full marathon covers the same loop twice. Distances offered:

  • 13.1 miles - half marathon, one loop
  • 26.2 miles - full marathon, two laps of the same route

Practical information

The start and finish are in Carding Mill Valley near the National Trust tea rooms. The course will be fully marked; participants are asked to carry a map of the area. Runners are expected to carry a rucksack, a minimum of 500 ml of water, and a basic first aid kit. Aid stations will be available on the course and marshals will be present. Entry includes a medal. There will also be a cake competition with prizes. Parking is available in the valley (approx £5 per car). Church Stretton town and its train station are within about a mile of the event location.
