Course, logistics and awards
The half marathon is an out-and-back route that begins at about 4,200 ft elevation and climbs to about 5,100 ft. The surface includes paved and maintained dirt road sections: the first 3 miles paved, the next 6 miles on maintained dirt, and the final 3 miles paved. The course includes views of the Wallowa Mountains, Eagle Cap Wilderness, Seven Devils, and surrounding high valleys. Aid or water stations are provided around mile 3, mile 6.5 (Hurricane Creek Trailhead), and around mile 10. The 5 Mile and 5K courses follow the out-and-back pattern and cover the first 2.5 miles and the first 1.55 miles of the half marathon course, respectively.
Packet pickup is available the day before at Quickhatch in Joseph and at the race start on race day. Registration pricing varies by date and distance; shirts are included with pre-registration for the half marathon. Awards are given to the top three male and top three female overall finishers in each distance, and half marathon finishers receive a finisher medal. A four-hour cutoff is in place for the half marathon. Weather at that time of year can be variable, with possible rain, sun, wind, or snow. Raffle and merchandise details are provided by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
