Holly Springs Race Against the Sun

The event returns for its fourth year at Sugg Farm Park and Bass Lake on Grigsby Avenue in Holly Springs, North Carolina. The course is a 4.167 mile trail loop that runs through the park and along Bass Lake.

Event formats include individual timed efforts and team relays: 24 hour and 12 hour individual events, a 100 mile option with a 30 hour cutoff, a 24 hour 6 person relay, and a 12 hour 4 person relay. There are also ruck divisions offered for 24 hour and 12 hour durations.

The loop distance is designed for steady pacing. Completing a full loop every hour yields 50 miles in 12 hours and 100 miles in 24 hours. The organizers note that this is not a Last Man Standing event and that the course distance can be used for pacing practice.

Ruck division rules include a mandatory gear check and a requirement that participants carry their pack on every loop. Weight requirements are 20 lb for participants who weigh less than 150 lb and 30 lb for participants who weigh more than 150 lb. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
