Leftovers Trail Run

The Leftovers Trail Run takes place on November 28, 2026 at Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill, NC. It is the second annual running of this event and follows the Birds of a Feather Trail Trot held on Thanksgiving Day.

Runners can choose between the following distances:

  • 5K: measures 3.48 miles (5.6K) with 217 feet of elevation gain.
  • 10K: measures 6.23 miles (10.02K) with 380 feet of elevation gain.

Both courses begin with just under half a mile of pavement and then use Briar Chapel’s forested trail network. The trails include a mixture of undulating double-track and flowy single-track with roots, rocks, and short hill climbs. Technical Terrain Course Ratings are listed as overall 3 out of 5 for both distances.

Event entries include repurposed vintage race items: runners select a vintage race tee, medal, and a bib from past events. Post-race activities include on-site food options, an awards ceremony with age-group and overall awards, contests with giveaways, and free photo downloads. A free Kids Race for children 11 and under is held on the field near the staging area and uses age group starts. The staging area is Great Meadow Park at Briar Chapel, 161 Salt Cedar Lane, Chapel Hill, NC. The event provides marked courses, aid stations (5K = one on course plus finish, 10K = three on course plus finish), medical support, and chip timing.
