Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay
Glenridding, United Kingdom • 4 Oct 2025
Event overview
The Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay is a fell running relay set in the Lake District Fells, based at King George Playing Field, Patterdale. It takes place annually on the first Saturday in October; the 2025 event is scheduled for Saturday 4th October 2025. The race is described as the longest-running mountain relay in the country.
The route is run over four legs, each run in pairs, so teams consist of 8 runners. The course includes hard climbs and steep descents on rough terrain and requires careful map navigation; no GPS is allowed. Organizers state the event is not intended for novice runners or those without mountain navigation experience.
Entry and race details
Entry is limited to 70 teams. Clubs enter via SiEntries on a pre-selection basis; places are allocated after the closing date. The entry fee is £130 per team, payable when a place is allocated and non-refundable once taken. Teams must enter individual leg runners online by midnight on Wednesday 1st October 2025.
Teams compete in Open, Ladies, Mixed and Vets categories. A Women’s Team is eight women. A Mixed Team must contain four men and four women. A Vets Team must have eight runners all aged 40 or over on race day. The normal minimum age is 18; one 16 year old may run Leg 1 if paired with an over-18 teammate and with written parental consent. Organizers apply vetting and give preference to clubs with a history of support. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
