The Highlands Sky 40M Trail Run is the twenty-second running of the event in Davis, West Virginia, held on June 20, 2026. The race is based at Canaan Valley Resort State Park and the course travels primarily through the Monongahela National Forest, with sections on Timberline Ski Resort and through the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge before finishing at Canaan Valley State Park.

The route passes through the Roaring Plains and Dolly Sods Wilderness Areas, including the highest plateau in the eastern United States. Course terrain includes rocky surfaces, stunted trees, and mountaintop meadows. Runners traverse varied trail types such as northern hardwood stands, stunted red spruce, heath barrens, woodland paths, ancient sphagnum bogs, and rocky, boulder-filled plains.
