Highlands Sky 40 Mile Trail Run
This 40-mile trail run is held in the Monongahela National Forest and Canaan Valley State Park near Davis, West Virginia. The 2026 event is scheduled for Saturday, June 20th.
The course travels primarily through the Monongahela National Forest. It traverses the Roaring Plains and Dolly Sods Wilderness Areas, which contain the highest plateau in the eastern United States. The terrain includes northern hardwoods, stunted red spruce, heath barrens, woodland paths, ancient sphagnum bogs, and rocky plains.
The route also passes through sections of Timberline Ski Resort and the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The finish is at Canaan Valley State Park.
