High Country Turkey Trot 5K & 10K

The High Country Turkey Trot takes place on Thanksgiving morning 2026 at Clawson-Burnley Park in Boone, North Carolina. The event offers multiple participation options over The Greenway and Kennedy Trails, including both timed trail races and an untimed paved route.

Distances:

  • 5K
  • 10K

For 2026 the course route has been updated to reduce elevation gain and improve terrain, resulting in fewer hill climbs and more stable footing. The 5K and 10K timed races run over mixed surfaces such as gravel, grass, dirt, and paved sections through wooded areas. The Fun Run/Walk uses fully paved trails to improve accessibility for leashed dogs, strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids. An official course map will be revealed prior to the event.

Awards include prizes for the top three men and top three women in the 5K and 10K timed races, finisher medals for all participants in those timed races, and custom event T-shirts for entrants. Age group awards are given in standard brackets from 9 and under up to 70 and over. First aid is provided by Watauga Rescue, stationed at the start/finish area. Participants are asked to bring non perishable boxed or canned food items for donation. The event also includes a live DJ, photo staging, costumes, and on site food and hot drinks.
