High Country Turkey Trot 5K & 10K : Boone, NC

The High Country Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving morning running event held at Clawson-Burnley Park and on the Boone Greenway Trail. The 5K and 10K timed races follow updated routes for 2026 with reduced elevation gain and improved terrain. Those courses travel mixed surfaces through woods and along trails, including gravel, grass, paved sections, and dirt paths via the Greenway and Kennedy Trails. The untimed Fun Run/Walk uses paved trails throughout the park and is accessible to leashed dogs, strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids.

Event features include a live DJ, a photo-staging area, costume participation, and a picnic shed offering food and hot drinks. First aid is provided by Watauga Rescue stationed at the start/finish area. Awards and participant items are provided for multiple categories: finisher medals for all 5K and 10K finishers, top three overall men and women prizes in each timed race, age-group awards, and event apparel swag for entrants and winners.

The event supports Hospitality House of Northwest N.C.; donation drop bins accept boxed and canned goods, dry goods, and similar items. Packet pick-up is available the day before the event and on race morning at the Hospitality House Housing & Outreach Center. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
