The High Country Turkey Trot is the 15th annual running event on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2025, held at Clawson-Burnley Park in Boone, North Carolina (355 M.L.K. Jr. St). Event options include:

  • 5k Timed Trail Race
  • 10k Timed Trail Race
  • 5k Fun Run/Walk (untimed)
  • Sleep In - Shirt Only

The event includes a live DJ and distributed custom High Country Turkey Trot T-shirts for entrants. The cutoff date to be guaranteed a shirt is 10/31/25.

Race courses and awards

The 5k and 10k timed races follow Greenway and Kennedy Trails and use partially paved sections plus mostly grass and wooded trail/dirt. The Fun Run/Walk 5k uses 100% paved Greenway Trail. All finishers in the 5k and 10k timed races receive a custom finisher medal. Top three overall men and women in each timed distance receive awards; top three in each age group also receive awards. Age groups: 9 & Under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Logistics and community support

First aid services are provided by Watauga Rescue at the start/finish area. Packets will be available on race morning beginning at 7:30 am. Parking is available at Watauga Parks & Recreation and National Guard Armory lots on M.L.K. Jr. Street; participants are asked to allow a minimum of 30 minutes to park and arrive. The event benefits Hospitality House of Northwest N.C.; organizers request non-perishable food donations and accept monetary donations on site and online.
