High Country Turkey Trot 10k
Boone, United States • 26 Nov 2026
Event Overview
The High Country Turkey Trot returns for its 16th year at Clawson-Burnley Park on the Boone Greenway Trail. This Thanksgiving morning event features multiple distances and categories for different levels of participation. The gathering includes a live DJ, a designated area for photographs, and a picnic shed providing refreshments and hot drinks. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and are asked to contribute non-perishable food items to support local community efforts.
Course Details
The 2026 edition introduces updated routes designed to reduce elevation gain and provide more stable footing. The course surfaces vary depending on the chosen distance:
- 10K Timed Trail Race
- 5K Timed Race
- 5K Fun Run/Walk
The 5K and 10K timed races follow a scenic route through wooded sections via the Greenway and Kennedy Trails. The terrain for these distances consists of a mix of gravel, grass, and paved surfaces. The 5K Fun Run/Walk takes place entirely on paved trails, making it accessible for strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and leashed dogs.
Awards and Recognition
All finishers in the timed 5K and 10K races receive a custom finisher medal. Custom t-shirts are provided to all entrants. Awards are presented to the top three overall men and women, who receive event-themed items and a pumpkin pie. Additionally, recognition is given to the top three finishers in various age groups, ranging from 9 and under to 70 and over. First aid services are available at the start and finish lines.
