Kettlefoot
Kettlefoot is a trail running event held at Doe Mountain Recreation Area near Mountain City, Tennessee. The event offers multiple trail distances and includes access to the 60 foot Kettlefoot Fire Tower with 360° views across Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Distances:
- 50K: ~31 miles; ~5,500 ft gain; 10.5 hour cutoff
- 25K: ~15 miles; ~2,750 ft gain; 7.5 hour cutoff
- 13K: ~8.8 miles; ~1,600 ft gain; 4 hour cutoff
The 50K course consists of the 25K loop run twice. Course elevation estimates vary by device; organizers recommend planning for the higher stated ranges. The event is USATF sanctioned.
Registration is handled through UltraSignup only; there is no paper registration. Registration fees cover facility use, aid stations, a finisher award, and post-race food. T-shirts are available as an add-on to keep entry fees lower. Published entry prices range from USD 48.50 to USD 71.56 across available offers.
Refund and transfer policies are specific: no refunds; registrations may be transferred to another runner for use in the same year until May 22, 2027; pregnancy and postpartum deferral is permitted for up to two years under Trail Sisters Approved standards, with no other deferrals allowed.
Packet pickup is offered the day before and the morning of the event. Volunteers receive a t-shirt and post-race food. Vehicle camping on DMRA property is available by contacting the race director. Doe Valley Campground and R&D Campground are nearby lodging options. DMRA is approximately 20 minutes from Damascus Virginia, 30 minutes from Boone North Carolina, and 60 minutes from Johnson City and Bristol Tennessee.
