Event Overview
The Leatherwood Marathons is a series of endurance trail races held in Ferguson, North Carolina. Managed by Dirty Wolf Racing, the event takes place on private trails within the Leatherwood Mountains. The course features a variety of distances, each with significant elevation changes. The routes are marked with orange ribbons and yellow arrows to guide participants through the mountain landscape.
Distance Options
Participants can choose from five different race distances:
- 100 Miles: A total distance of 106.97 miles with 25,145 feet of elevation gain.
- 100K: A total distance of 64.15 miles with 15,095 feet of elevation gain.
- 50 Mile: A total distance of 53.15 miles with 11,944 feet of elevation gain.
- 50K: A total distance of 32.1 miles with 6,989 feet of elevation gain.
- 25K: A total distance of 16.35 miles with 3,235 feet of elevation gain.
Support and Logistics
The event provides aid stations stocked with water, hydration drinks, soda, and various food items including fruit, candy, bacon, and pickles. Basic first aid is also available at these locations. Finishing participants receive a handmade pottery medal and race swag. Results are tracked and published following the event.
Accommodations and Rules
On-site lodging options include rustic cabins and a creekside campground with tent and RV sites equipped with water and power hookups. Shower and bathroom facilities are available on the premises. The event has a strict no-dog and no-stroller policy, and registration is required for all participants. A 36-hour cutoff time is enforced for the 100-mile distance.
