Hickory Knolls Trail Run

The Hickory Knolls Trail Run is the second event in the 2026 Dick Pond Athletics Darn Tough Trail Race Series. Held at the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center in St. Charles, the event features grass and dirt trails through a natural conservation area. The route uses existing pathways within the Hickory Knolls Nature Area and James O. Breen Community Park.

The course consists of an approximate 3-mile loop. The first section of the loop is relatively flat, while the latter portion includes several hills. The trail is primarily wide-track, allowing for passing, and consists of dirt, gravel, and grass surfaces. Participants should expect typical trail conditions, including uneven ground, exposed roots, embedded rocks, and low branches. The route is marked with spray chalk, directional signs, and plastic pennants.

Participants can choose from the following distances:

  • 5K Run/Walk: One loop of approximately 3.1 miles.
  • 10K Run: Two loops of approximately 6.3 miles.
  • 10K 2-person Relay: Each participant completes one loop of approximately 3.1 miles.

Water is available at the finish line and at the start/finish area for 10K runners beginning their second loop. There are no water stations located on the 5K course. Facilities include washrooms inside the Discovery Center and toilets near the picnic shelter and soccer fields. Proceeds from the event benefit the St. Charles Park Foundation.
