Headless Horseman BYU
Headless Horseman BYU is a trail event held at Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, Michigan, on October 31, 2026. The course is a 4.167 mile loop that goes through prairie grass fields, hardwood forest, stands of pine, and follows a river within the park. The loop has an elevation gain of 151 ft.
Distances:
- 4.167 miles single loop
- 50 miles 12-hour Back Yard Ultra (completion of 12 hours equals 50 miles)
The 12-hour Back Yard Ultra follows last-person-standing rules: runners begin each lap at the top of the hour and must complete the loop within the hour to remain in the event. If multiple runners finish on the final lap, the fastest loop determines the overall winner. A headlamp is required for the later laps.
Timing and results are chip based; lap times and live, current places will be available. All entries receive a T-shirt and a finisher patch. Awards include Playmakers gift cards for overall finishers and age-group winners, age groups provided for both women and men. There is no aid station on the course; a single aid station near the start/finish will offer snacks and drinks.
Registration opens July 11 and closes October 23. Entry fees are listed for the single loop and the 12-hour event. There is no race day registration for the 12-hour event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
