Harkerside Hustle

The Harkerside Hustle takes place on 4 October 2026 around Grinton and Harkerside, with race HQ at The Dales Bike Centre, Fremington, North Yorkshire (what3words ///entitles.paths.sedative). The event is a half marathon distance listed as 21.7 km / 13.4 miles and follows some of the DR40 route.

The route starts from Grinton onto Harkerside Moor, passes an iron age farmstead, climbs Whitaside Moor, then descends through Apedale. Runners rejoin the DR40 line to climb to the Height of Greets, cross to Grinton Smelt Mill, pass Sharrow Hill and follow grassy descents to Cogden Hall before returning to The Dales Bike Centre. Surfaces include moorland trods, hard packed tracks and grassy paths. Trail shoes are recommended.

The organisers list mandatory kit: taped seam waterproofs including jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, emergency blanket or bivvy bag, a cup or soft flask, minimum 500 ml water, emergency food and a fully charged mobile phone. Suggested kit includes a map, compass and whistle. Organisers may perform kit checks and failure to carry mandatory items can result in disqualification.

Parking is provided in a nearby field (what3words cook.famed.irony). Toilets are available at race HQ. Aid stations will offer water, sweet and savoury food and some electrolyte tablets but cups are not provided. The event has an age limit of 16 plus and a runner cap of 100 entrants. Take on the New Embsay Fell Race on Sat 11 Jul: a punchy 2.5 mile course with 195 m of climb through the Yorks Dales. Part of the village fete, enjoy entertainment and refreshments and easy on the day entry for a fun community challenge.

The The Sting Backyard Ultra will take place in Richmond (North Yorkshire) on Saturday 11 July 2026. You can run between 4 and 7 kilometers.

Experience a summer evening fell race in Weardale featuring a 7 km out and back route. Runners will tackle 400 meters of ascent to reach the 700 meter summit of Chapelfell Top before a fast descent to St John's Chapel.
