Hanwell Hammering
Hanwell Hammering
The Hanwell Hammering takes place at the Hanwell Recreation Park in New Brunswick. The event features a trail course consisting of a loop that incorporates rubberized material, single-track trails, and double-track trails. Each loop is approximately 5 km long with roughly 60 meters of elevation gain.
The competition offers various distances held over two days:
- 5 km (The Plastic Hammer): A single loop on a slightly easier course held on Friday evening.
- 10 km (The Rubber Hammer): Two loops of the main course.
- 25 km (The Wooden Hammer): Five loops of the main course.
- 50 km (The Iron Hammer): Ten loops of the main course.
Participants in the 50 km distance must adhere to a cut-off time, requiring the completion of the first five loops (25 km) within 5 hours to avoid a DNF result. Saturday events include chip timing. The Hanwell Hammering is recognized as a UTMB Index race.
Facilities at the Hanwell Community Centre include race kit pickup, a bag drop area, and post-race showers. A single aid station is located at the start and finish area providing water and nutrition. This is a cup-less event, so runners must carry their own hydration containers. Additional services on Saturday include access to first aid and massage students for participant recovery.
