Hanwell Hammering
Hanwell Hammering
The Hanwell Hammering is a trail running event held at Hanwell Recreation Park in Hanwell, New Brunswick, Canada. The event takes place over two days.
On Friday evening, a 5 km race (the Plastic Hammer) is offered on trails described as slightly easier than Saturday's routes.
The main event on Saturday features three distances, all based on loops of approximately 5 km each, with about 60 m of elevation gain per loop. The courses combine rubberized material sections, brand-new single-track trails, and double-track trails. The distances are:
- Rubber Hammer: 2 loops (~ 10 km)
- Wooden Hammer: 5 loops (~ 25 km)
- Iron Hammer: 10 loops (~ 50 km)
For the Iron Hammer (50 km), there is a cut-off: runners must have completed 5 loops (25 km) by 1:30 PM. The Hanwell Hotdog Hunt, a kids' run for ages 3-10, is also held on Saturday at noon.
This is a cup-less event. One aid station with water and nutrition is located at the start/finish area. Washrooms and first aid are available on-site. Showers and post-race massage therapy from students are offered. Dogs are not allowed to participate.
The Hanwell Hammering is the first race in New Brunswick to be a UTMB Index race. Registration is online and closes on April 30. There are no refunds or deferrals. A bib transfer option will open if the race sells out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
