Frankie's Vertical Backyard Ultra
Frankie's Vertical Backyard Ultra
Frankie's Vertical Backyard Ultra takes place at 220 Angus Archie Rd in Mabou, Nova Scotia. The event is described as Canada’s first "vertical" backyard ultra and uses a loop of about 4 km that gains and loses 370 m of elevation each circuit.
Each loop must be completed within one hour and the standard backyard ultra rules apply. Free camping is available at the start and finish for runners and crew. Organizers supply water and Tailwind throughout the event.
The published registration fee is CA$94.04 and includes race swag, insurance, and a CA$10 donation to the Mabou food bank. Ten dollars from every registration is donated to that food bank. Prize amounts listed are CA$750 for the winner and CA$250 for the assist position.
Volunteer shifts are offered; a 6 to 8 hour volunteer shift grants a free entry to the 2027 edition. The event highlights cumulative elevation: multiple loops accumulate vertical gain comparable to the high points of various provinces and territories.
