Fort Ord Trail Run

The Fort Ord Trail Run is a trail running event held on trails within Fort Ord National Monument near Monterey and Salinas, California. The event offers multiple distances run largely on non-technical dirt trails and fire roads, with some eroded sections and dune-like hills. Most of the climbing occurs near the end of each course, and hiking or trekking poles are permitted.

Distances offered:

  • 10K : 6.4 miles, 900 ft elevation gain
  • 25K : 16.3 miles, 2,250 ft elevation gain
  • 50K : 31.0 miles, 4,300 ft elevation gain

Courses are marked with colored surveyor ribbon placed frequently; blue ribbons indicate wrong-way trails. Laminated signs and ground markings are used at complex intersections. Timing and course tracking are provided by a timing partner so runners can be tracked on course. Drop bag services are not available.

Aid stations supply a variety of energy and electrolyte options including gels, Stroopwafels, snacks, PB&J, soda, water, and Skratch Labs hydration. Aid stations carry general first-aid items but do not provide anti-inflammatory medication. This is a cupless event; runners must carry their own water bottle or reusable cup. Reusable cups are available for purchase on site.

Additional event details include a total participant capacity of 600 across distances, a time limit of 8.5 hours for the 50K, a $5 parking fee at Laguna Seca, and a policy that dogs must be leashed in park areas. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
