Fort Ord Trail Run

Monterey, United States • 7 Feb 2026

Event overview

The Fort Ord Trail Run takes place on February 7, 2026 at Fort Ord National Monument / Laguna Seca Recreation Area near Salinas and Monterey, California. The event offers these distances:

  • 50K - 31.0 miles, 4,300' elevation gain
  • 25K - 16.3 miles, 2,250' elevation gain
  • 10K - 6.4 miles, 900' elevation gain

The event has a total field capacity of 600 entries across all distances. The 50K carries an 8.5 hour time limit. Race timing and live course tracking are provided by San Francisco Running Company using ultralive.net. Parking is available within Laguna Seca for a $5 fee.

Course and logistics

Most of the courses run on non-technical dirt trails and fire roads, with some rutted sections and dune-like hills; most climbing occurs toward the end of each course. Courses are marked with colored surveyor ribbon about every 200 meters; blue ribbons indicate wrong-way trails. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted. Drop bag services are not available.

Aid stations supply a range of food and drink items including energy gels, stroopwafels, trail mix, sandwiches, soda, water, and Skratch Labs hydration. Runners are strongly encouraged to carry at least one 20 oz bottle because this is a cupless event - aid stations do not provide paper cups. Reusable cups by HydraPak are available for purchase at the event for $5. Dogs are allowed on leash in the parks; runners with dogs must start at the back of the pack. Post-race food options and awards (custom medals for all finishers, trophies for overall top three, pint glass for 50K finishers, and age-group medals) are provided.
