Event overview
The Fort Ord Trail Run takes place on February 7, 2026 at Fort Ord National Monument / Laguna Seca Recreation Area near Monterey/Salinas, California. The event offers three trail distances:
- 50K (31.0 miles, 4,300' elevation gain)
- 25K (16.3 miles, 2,250' elevation gain)
- 10K (6.4 miles, 900' elevation gain)
The event has a capacity of 600 runners across all distances. Timing and live course tracking are provided by San Francisco Running Company using ultralive.net. Bib pickup is available the day before at The Treadmill in Carmel-by-the-Sea and on race morning at the Laguna Seca Start/Finish area.
Course and logistics
Most of the courses run on non-technical dirt trails and fire roads with some eroded, rutted sections and sand-dune-like hills. Most climbing occurs toward the end of each route. Hiking or trekking poles are permitted. Courses are marked with colored surveyor ribbon about every 200 meters; blue ribbons mark wrong-way trails. Aid stations supply a variety of foods and drinks such as energy gels, Stroopwafels, trail mix, PB&J, soda, water, and Skratch Labs. Drop bag service is not available. This is a cupless event so runners must carry their own bottle or reusable cup; reusable cups are sold at the event for $5. Parking is available within Laguna Seca for a $5 fee. Dogs are allowed on leash in both parks; runners with dogs must start at the back. Awards include custom trophies for the top three overall, medals for all finishers, a pint glass for 50K finishers, and age-group medals across listed categories. An 8.5 hour time limit applies to the 50K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
