Fort Ord Trail Run takes place at Fort Ord National Monument in Monterey, California. The event offers three distances: 10K, 25K, and 50K, run mainly on non-technical dirt trails and fire roads, with most climbing toward the end. Elevation gains are approximately 900 ft for 10K, 2,250 ft for 25K, and 4,300 ft for 50K.

Courses are ribbon-marked (blue ribbons indicate wrong turns). The race uses live tracking via ultralive.net in partnership with San Francisco Running Company. It is a cupless event; runners must carry their own bottle or cup, with HydraPak reusable cups available for purchase.
