2026 Big Sur Trail Marathon, Half Marathon & 5 Mile
The 36th annual Big Sur Trail event takes place on September 26, 2026 at Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur, California. The event offers the following distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 5 Mile
The course follows Old Coast Road and includes sustained climbs with coastal views. The route is marked with orange ribbon and uses aid stations and portable restrooms at several locations. The event is limited to 300 participants. A course cut off time of 6.5 hours is used with published pace guidelines for each distance. Hikers and walkers are welcome.
Bibs are typically mailed about one week before the event; runners who have not received a bib may pick one up on race morning in the park picnic area. Aid stations are located at mile 2.5 for all distances, at miles 6.5 and 10.5 for half marathoners and marathoners, and at miles 15.8, 19.7 and 23.7 for marathoners. Participants are advised to carry water. T shirts are provided to all participants; medals are awarded to marathon and half marathon finishers; personalized award ribbons for top three finishers male and female in each age group will be mailed after the race.
Headphones and audible music devices are not allowed on course. Dogs are not allowed on Old Coast Road but are permitted on leash in developed park areas. Parking at the park is limited and a $10 per car park entry fee applies. Registrations are non refundable and non transferable; a rollover credit minus a $20 fee may be available if requested by August 26, 2026, with medical documentation required after that date.
