Event Overview

The 2026 Big Sur Trail Marathon, Half Marathon & 5 Mile is the 36th annual running of this event. It takes place at Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur, California.

The event offers three distances:

  • 5 Mile

Course & Logistics

The course uses the Old Coast Road and offers views of the California coastline. The course has hills. Hikers and walkers are welcome to participate, with an overall course cut-off time of 6.5 hours.

The race is limited to 300 participants and historically sells out. Parking at the park is limited and there is a park entry fee of $10 per car.

Participant Information

Bib numbers are mailed to participants about a week before the event. Athlete check-in and bib pickup for those who haven't received theirs is available on race day morning from 8:00-8:50 AM.

Aid stations are provided along the course. The organizer recommends that participants carry their own water. Portable restrooms are available adjacent to each aid station.

All participants receive a T-shirt. Medals are given to all marathon and half marathon finishers. Personalized award ribbons are mailed to the top three male and female finishers in each age group for all distances a few weeks after the race.

Dogs are not allowed on the race course but are permitted on-leash in developed areas of the state park. For safety, headphones and audible music devices are not allowed during the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
