Fort Morgan to Florida 50k
This event is organized as a fatass group run and FKT attempt covering 50k along Alabama's contiguous Gulf Coast from the far west point of the Fort Morgan Peninsula to the Florida state line near Flora Bama. The route is run primarily on soft, often driftwood-strewn sand and follows the beach within the mean tidal range.
Participants reach an official start after a one mile walk from the boat launch area. The course includes six aid stations and three restroom locations. There are two mandatory bridge crossings; swimming these gaps is not permitted and the bridges are the only places runners may leave the sand. Leaving the sand elsewhere may result in disqualification. Bridge crossings and restricted exit points will be signed and are supported by local enforcement.
The beach area used for the official route falls under Alabama State Law as public land; the race notes that the full width of the beach may be used to seek firmer sand within the prescribed route. There are no shuttle services provided. The event finishes at the Florida state line adjacent to the Flora Bama venue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
