Event Overview
The Forbidden Run Fest is a trail running event held in autumn in Philadelphia's Wissahickon Valley Park. It is described as a celebration of the park during its peak autumn colors. The event is limited to 750 participants.
Distances and Courses
Three race distances are offered:
- 10 km: Course includes smooth gravel trail and a quarter-mile rocky uphill section named "Mount What the heck."
- 10 Mile: Course includes one mile of downhill single-track trail, an out-and-back section on the gravel Forbidden Drive, and finishes on "Mount What the heck."
- Half Marathon (13.1 Miles): Course includes five miles of technical single-track trail, sections on gravel trail, and the "Mount What the Heck" climb.
All courses are located entirely within Wissahickon Park. The event has a time limit ending at 1:00 PM.
Race Day Details
The event headquarters and check-in location is the Houston Recreational Center at 900 Grakyn Lane, Philadelphia. Bib pickup is at the Houston Playground from 7:45 AM to 8:45 AM. The races start in waves between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM.
A post-race party features live music by Don Bitterlich and fresh pizza. The event provides premium swag in the form of a race sweatshirt.
Aid Stations and Timing
Aid stations providing water, Gatorade, and snacks are spaced approximately 2-3 miles apart. The number of stations varies by distance: one for the 10K, three for the 10 Miler, and four for the Half Marathon. Participants are recommended to carry their own hydration. The race is chip-timed by 2L Race Services, with live results posted online. Awards are given to the top three overall finishers and the top three in standard age groups.
Registration and Policies
Registration is handled via UltraSignup. A refund policy is in place: refunds minus a $10 fee are available if requested by mail up to 30 days before the race; no refunds or deferrals are offered within 30 days.
