Event overview

The FLATS Trail Half Marathon is a point-to-point trail race in Kirksville, Missouri, held on October 3, 2026. The event is a half marathon distance and supports the Forest Lake Area Trail System. The race offers custom finisher medals, age-group awards, and prize money for top finishers in female, male, and nonbinary categories.

Course and aid

The course runs on maintained trails with rocks, roots, hills, and early road running to spread out the field. There are seven aid stations located at approximately mile 1.5, 3.2, 5.2, 7.9, 9.85, 11.3, and 12.5. Aid stations provide water, sports drink, snacks, and gels. The finish area will supply water, sports drink, soft drinks, pizza, and snacks. Runners are encouraged to carry calories or a hydration system; bottles can be refilled at aid stations.

Awards, age groups, and records

Prize money: first place $150, second place $75, third place $25 in each gender category; a course record bonus can increase total prize money. Age groups are 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. Course records listed for women (2017) and men (2022).

Logistics and policies

Packet pickup is available the day before at the ATSU Thompson Campus Center and again on race morning at the marina. Because the course is point-to-point, a shuttle transfers runners from the finish to the start; parking at the finish on race morning is recommended. One gear bag per runner will be transported from start to finish. The event operates rain or shine; management may delay, cancel, or modify the race for safety. Registration transfer and partial-credit options are available under stated deadlines; a pregnancy and postpartum deferral option is also offered. The event participates in programs to increase access and offers nonbinary registration with equal podiums and prize money. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
