FLATS Trail Half Marathon : Kirksville, Missouri
The FLATS Trail Half Marathon is a point-to-point trail race held in Kirksville, Missouri. The course runs through forested trails alongside a lake and includes sections of mostly single-track with roots, rocks, occasional water crossings, and rolling terrain. The event supports the Forest Lake Area Trail System.
The race provides seven on-course aid stations located at approximately miles 1.5, 3.2, 5.2, 7.9, 9.85, 11.3, and 12.5. Aid stations offer water, sports drink, snacks, and gels; the finish area supplies water, sports drink, soft drinks, pizza, and snacks. Runners are encouraged to carry some calories and a hydration system or bottles that can be refilled along the course.
Awards include cash prizes for first, second, and third overall in female, male, and nonbinary categories, with a course record bonus available. The top three finishers in each age group receive a commemorative FLATS pint glass. Age groups run from 19 and under through 70 and over in ten-year increments.
Packet pickup is available the day before at the ATSU Thompson Campus Center and again on race morning at the Marina. Because the course is point-to-point, a shuttle will transport runners from the finish at Jackson Stables to the start at the Thousand Hills State Park Marina. The event follows inclusivity standards, offers nonbinary registration with equal podiums and prize money, and participates in programs to reduce financial barriers to entry.
