Firefly Six Hour Night Trail Race
The Firefly is a six hour timed night trail event held at Franke Park in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Participants complete as many full laps as they can on the park trail network within the six hour time limit. Only complete loops count toward each participant's mileage total.
The loop route includes paved path, gravel road and single track dirt trail. Laps are tracked on a large whiteboard at the HUB and are also recorded electronically. The HUB is a multi-use facility built and maintained by the Summit City Singletrack mountain bike riding club; it is equipped with picnic tables and shade triangles and will be lit after sunset. The HUB sits between the gravel parking lot and Derby Hill.
There is no aid station on the course; participants keep their personal snacks and drinks at the HUB. The event encourages sharing snacks at the HUB during the race. Wheelchair athletes follow a course made up of paved path and gravel road.
The park trails are technical and generally slower than road pace, with roots and rocks on dirt sections and occasional low branches. Recommended items mentioned by the organizer include a headlamp or flashlight, folding chair, insect repellent, sunscreen, snacks, water and hydration mix.
