Fineview Step Challenge
The Fineview Citizens Council organizes the Fineview Step Challenge in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This urban event focuses on the neighborhood's public staircases, hillside streets, and trails. The course is notable for including 12 public staircases, totaling more than 1,600 steps throughout the route.
Participants navigate a course that features some of the steepest terrain in the city, including the stair set on Rising Main Avenue. This specific section consists of 371 steps, which is comparable to the height of a 17-story building. The route is designed to provide views of the surrounding area as runners ascend the various elevations.
The event offers two distinct distances for participants:
- 5 Mile run
- 2 Mile run
The start and finish area is located at the Fineview Overlook on Catoma Street. Proceeds from the race are used to fund community programming, including neighborhood beautification projects and efforts to preserve local housing affordability. The 2026 edition marks the continuation of this long-standing urban tradition in the Fineview community. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
