Fall Creek 100
Fall Creek 100 is a series of trail races held in Fall Creek Falls, a large and frequently visited park in Tennessee. The courses visit multiple overlooks and waterfalls, cross two suspension bridges, and include roughly four miles of running along the shoreline of Fall Creek Falls Lake.
The trails run through pine forest with mossy, fern-lined tracks along creeks and several bridge crossings. The route passes Milikan's Overlook, crosses Cane Creek Falls and Piney Creek Falls, and runs within about 40 yards of two additional waterfalls and the park's 256 foot namesake falls. The course is milder than typical for the area, with fewer rocks and roots and generally faster trail sections.
Distances and climbing:
- 50 km - 3,100 ft of climbing
- 100 km - 6,200 ft of climbing
- 100 mile - 11,500 ft of climbing
Race details include access provisions for crew to the Start/Finish area, Upper Trailhead, and Gilbert Gaul. Pacers are permitted for 100 mile runners beginning at mile 48.5 and may only enter or exit the course at specified locations; one pacer at a time and pacers may not carry items for their runner. Drop bags are stored at the Start/Finish area or the Nature Center aid station. For 100 mile runners who complete at least two loops, an option exists to drop down instead of receiving a DNF; the race records the runner as dropped at the point they leave the course.
Awards are given in layered steel and transparent epoxy waterfall designs. Volunteer roles include trail clearing, packet pickup, aid station work, and course sweeping, with entry and apparel offered for volunteers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
