Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run - Hemlock Overlook

The Fall Backyard Burn is a trail running event held at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park in Clifton, Virginia. This 425 acre park is situated along the banks of the Bull Run and provides a natural environment where participants may encounter local wildlife such as deer, beaver, turkey, osprey, and great blue heron. The event features two distinct distance options:

• 5.2 Miles
• 9.5 Miles

The race courses consist of a variety of terrain types, including forested fire roads, twisty hiking trails, stream crossings, and grassy fields. Runners encounter rocks, roots, and dirt roads throughout the route, with minimal sections of pavement. Specific segments of the course include the Bull Run Occoquan Trail and paths that run directly alongside the water.

The layout is designed to be spectator friendly, offering several designated areas where family and friends can observe the participants. This event is part of a larger series of trail races held on trail networks throughout the Northern Virginia area.
