Nine Edges

Bamford, United Kingdom • 12 Sep 2026

The Nine Edges Endurance is a 20 mile off road traverse that raises funds for Edale Mountain Rescue Team. The route runs from Fairholmes in the Upper Derwent to the Robin Hood Inn near Birchen Edge and crosses nine gritstone edges and rough moorland, with about 900 metres of ascent. Participants may walk, run or climb. Climbers are expected to climb one route on each of the nine edges.

The running event is held under Fell Runners Association rules and runners must follow FRA requirements; walkers and climbers are covered by Mountain Rescue England and Wales liability insurance while following FRA safety guidance. The event has a minimum age of 18. Runners must navigate with a physical map and a traditional compass; GPS navigation is not permitted for runners. Walkers and climbers may use GPS but must also carry and know how to use a physical map and compass.

A specified minimum kit must be carried by all participants, including a waterproof jacket and leg cover, hat and gloves, warm layers, whistle, sufficient food and fluids, a survival bag and suitable map and compass. The entry fee is £35 and includes a £2 donation to the Peak District National Park Foundation, refreshments at marshal points, a drink at the finish and transport back to the start. No refunds or deferrals are offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
