Nine Edges Endurance for Edale Mountain Rescue Team
The Nine Edges Endurance is a 20 mile off road traverse that raises funds for Edale Mountain Rescue Team. The route runs from Fairholmes in the Upper Derwent to the Robin Hood Inn near Birchen Edge, crossing rough moorland and nine gritstone edges including Derwent and Stanage Edge. The course has about 900 metres of ascent and requires navigational ability.
Participants may choose to walk, run, or climb. Climbers are expected to climb one route on each of the nine edges. The running event is held under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules. Runners must not use GPS for navigation and must carry a physical map and a traditional compass; walkers and climbers may use GPS but must also carry a physical map and traditional compass. The minimum age is 18.
The entry fee is £35; this includes a £2 donation to the Peak District National Park Foundation, marshal refreshments, a drink at the finish and bus transport back to Fairholmes. T shirts are available for an additional £9. Entry is non transferable and refunds or deferments are not offered. Organisers carry out random kit checks and require mandatory safety kit such as waterproof outer layers, warm clothing, hat and gloves, whistle, sufficient food and fluids, a map and compass and a survival bag or emergency shelter. Registration takes place at Fairholmes and transport is provided from the finish back to the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
