The Dusk to Dawn Relay and Ultra takes place at the Bonneville Speedway Road in Wendover, Utah. Participants compete on the Bonneville Salt Flats, a location known for its flat terrain. The event is held overnight, beginning at sunset and concluding at sunrise, providing approximately 11 hours for participants to complete as many miles as possible.

Course and Format

The race is held on a 2-mile loop directly on the salt surface. Participants can enter as individual ultra runners or as part of a relay team. The event structure allows for various team sizes:

  • 50 Miles (Individual Ultra)
  • 4-Person Team Relay
  • 6-Person Team Relay
  • 8-Person Team Relay

Teams and individuals determine their own strategy regarding the rotation of runners and the number of laps each person completes. For a final lap to be included in the total distance, it must be finished before the sun rises. Trophies are awarded to the teams that record the highest mileage in each category.

Facilities and Activities

The event features several amenities and organized activities throughout the night, including a scavenger hunt and cosmos tours led by an astronomy club. Support staff and observers can access the grounds with a dedicated wristband. Following the conclusion of the race, a pancake breakfast is provided for charity.
